Moderation is hard for me when it comes to certain foods. Chocolate chip cookies come to mind...last week I discovered that Chik Fil-A has a chocolate chunk cookie to DIE for. I consumed several, on more than one day.
They have 330 calories apiece, so this would not be considered "moderation."
Today's spark coach advice for me, though, was about practicing moderation to avoid feeling deprived and obsessing about banned foods, and to ditch perfectionist tendencies that can backfire in the long run. My strategy has typically been to avoid foods I have trouble controlling myself around. This works ok for the most part, but I definitely have a feeling of failure if I do eventually consume a food I consider off-limits. And it is certainly true that I will not go the rest of my life without another chocolate chip cookie.
This week I will have one chocolate chunk cookie from Chik Fil-A. I think I will take my kids as a treat on Thursday evening. One cookie, without a side of guilt.
