Moderation Experiment

Moderation is hard for me when it comes to certain foods. Chocolate chip cookies come to mind...last week I discovered that Chik Fil-A has a chocolate chunk cookie to DIE for. I consumed several, on more than one day. emoticon They have 330 calories apiece, so this would not be considered "moderation."

Today's spark coach advice for me, though, was about practicing moderation to avoid feeling deprived and obsessing about banned foods, and to ditch perfectionist tendencies that can backfire in the long run. My strategy has typically been to avoid foods I have trouble controlling myself around. This works ok for the most part, but I definitely have a feeling of failure if I do eventually consume a food I consider off-limits. And it is certainly true that I will not go the rest of my life without another chocolate chip cookie.

This week I will have one chocolate chunk cookie from Chik Fil-A. I think I will take my kids as a treat on Thursday evening. One cookie, without a side of guilt. emoticon

    In the diets of past I always avoided all foods and then eventually returned to eat all and more and gain all the weight and plus some back. This time around I have stuck with it longer but allowed myself little "treats" of favorite foods every now and then and it has worked out better for me but sometimes it does slow my weight loss for that week but I am happier in the long run and feel like I can live this way at least ! Everyone is so different that we all have to find "what" works for each of us !!

    Hope it works for you, I confess it wouldn't work for me, cookies are only one of the trigger foods that I tend to avoid to stay on track.

    When I first started the Spark Diet, I worked in one chocolate chip cookie per day in my calorie range. It worked for me. emoticon

    I hope the "one cookie" strategy works for you. I struggle with similar issues. For me, it tends to be all or nothing.

I love Chik-Fil-A too, but there are none close to me so it tends to be a travel thing.

    Haven't tried the Chik-Fil-A cookie, but a Taco Bell chocolate chip cookie sandwich is one of the best things I have EVER tasted. 390 calories. Enough to share with the kids.

I know this isn't what I should be writing you, but if you haven't tried it yet, you should. You will probably have a new favorite. Just eat when you've met a goal of yours, as a reward.

    That is definitely the way. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet, so you know you will have cookies in your life forever so learn to limit what you eat but eat them here and there and you won't feel like you are deprived. You CAN do this. Love Chik-Fil-A!!!
