Eating Out Smarter - Pass or Fail?

Continuing from Saturday's blog, I did OK at the Roadhouse Saturday night...well, OK for me, but not for someone on a strict diet. I ordered pork (a lean meat), and sweet potato. I did order a loaded sweet potato with marshmallow and caramel sauce, but I won't do that again. It actually was too sweet for me and I learned I like it plain with "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" better. I also ordered peach tea but wished I had just ordered water with lemon. Next time I will. It's actually better. The peach tea was just too sweet. What's that about? I'm actually enjoying the healthier foods and drink?! I think my only real weakness was the Roadhouse rolls. Too yummy to ignore. Soooo...maybe it wasn't the best choices, but I still feel I'm on the road to making better choices.

Sunday I tried quacamole with Sun Chips, but it wasn't good. I think it was actually just avacado with Sun flavor. So my husband found me some packages of quacamole dip, so for supper last night, I just had Tortilla Chips (small serving) with guacamole dip. I don't know how smart that really is though. May need to try something else....I just don't know yet what that will be. Still needing something new that's healthy, but tasty.

Other than that, the weekend was pretty uneventful. Kids went to the Ranger Baseball game, we went out to eat and took care of some shopping errands for the mother-in-law and just window-shopped mostly. Just a quick Saturday night date-night of food & shopping. Sunday, church, hanging out at home watching DVR recordings and some time in PhotoShop just for fun. We still haven't been able to do any flower gardening yet because of the unseasonably cool weather we're still having in our area. Hopefully, we can start next weekend. It actually snowed where we were last weekend in Northern Arkansas. Very unusual for May!

    I love love love guacamole! But you can't just do avocado, you need to add a few things - chopped onion, tomato, and a tad of jalapeno is good, and you definitely want a few squeezes of lemon and lime juice.

    Do you like humus? I like it with rice crackers and carrot sticks for a crunchy snack. I get the snack packs or portion it out ahead of time because it's high in calories (but healthy). Good luck!
