THE NEXT NEW THING
With all the new gadgets and electronics we have in the world today, it is easy to want the next new thing as soon as it comes out. We have so many newer and better versions of just about everything and we are eager to get the next new thing sometimes because it will help us in our jobs but sometimes simply because everyone else has it. We rush from one new thing to another. We have to be careful that these things don’t cause us to be greedy for the things of the world where we forget what we are here for and what God wants us to be doing in our lives.
Colossians 3:5b “Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us today. We know that technology is great for so many things but we also know we can get consumed by it wanting every new thing that comes out. Help us to know what you want us to have so that we can do Your work rather than get focused on the newness of it all. Remind us as we are using the things of the world that we are to use them to help others and to glorify You. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
Rather than getting obsessed with things, we need to get obsessed with God.
We tend to rush from one new thing to another in this fast-paced world.
When we get so busy rushing here and there, we could forget the One we really need to rush to every day.
It is so easy to get distracted with the things of the world when they are all around us, however, God is all around us as well and can do so much more than any new gadget created by man.
1 Timothy 6:17 “Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.” (NLT)
We need to go to our knees and ask God what we can do to stop the obsessive thoughts and actions with the things of the world.
Ephesians 5:5 “You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.” (NLT)
