This was the weekend of the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, the plan was to have about 30 or so sparkers from all over the country attending the event. Many of us have known each other for a few years from JASR events in Pittsburgh, we looked forward to seeing each other again and getting to know some of the new sparkers that would make the journey to Cincy.
We always have a great time when we are together but this weekend marred when we learned Saturday afternoon that Trish’s husband passed away after a battle with cancer. As we gathered in the lobby of the hotel that evening there were many tears of joy to see each other again and tears of sadness for our friend. Trish’s husband Don was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has been in our prayers the past two years while he battled cancer, he lost his fight on Saturday leaving behind Trish and their two young children. Trish is strong but a few prayers for the family would not hurt.
Anyhow, Sunday morning our crew gathered in the hotel lobby to say a prayer for the family then made their way down to the starting line of the marathon and half marathon just as the race started this was the view in the sky.
Some thought that the rainbow was Trish but I believe that the rainbow represented Don, it was his way of looking down over all these wonderful people that have been praying for him and his family, it was his way to say thank you and to protect us from the likes of the event that took place in Boston. Don, one last time he stood tall as a RMCP and said “not on my watch” shall harm come to these wonderful people.
We love you Trish and we are all here for you!
