Saturday and Sunday I pretty well spent the afternoon and evening just napping on the couch with King. It just seemed the thing to do. Saturday morning I did the Flying Pig 10K and 5K back to back, and then on Sunday morning I did the Flying Pig Half Marathon cor the third year in a row. To be honest, I could do little more than nap.
Here's the deal: I didn't train. At all. Ba k in September I was folliwing a half marathon training plan for the Mason Half Marathon, but I ended up in the hospital and had to take a total 3 weeks off work. About the time I got over that, my dad took a turn for the worse, ended up in a nursing home, and then passed away. Still not over that. Once I got King on April Fools Day, I started walking 3 to 6 miles about 3 times or so a week. That's been it. I had signed up for the Skyline Chili 3 Way Challenge back in August. I expected to be in shape. Didn't work out that way.
The 10K was the first race Saturday morning. It was to be a warm up for what I hoped to be a quick 5K. Instead, I pushed it and ended up somewhere around or slighhtly under 13 minute mile pace. The 5K got walked at a shade over 15 min/mile. I was happy. The half marathon was a different monster. Mid way through the 5K, my left little piggy that stayed home (toe next to the big toe) started hurting. I couldn't wear shoes Saturday night. Until about mile 6 or 7 of the half, it was really sore. Then, I didn't notice it any more. During the half, I alternated running and walking to traffic lights. Run to one light, walk to the next. That kept my pace around 14min/mile. The result was I finished at 3:10 and change...4 minutes slower than my 2011 time when I ran the whole thing...hmmmm....
