It's not what you think, or maybe it is...depends on if you have ever heard of a little thing called the Mud Factor!
The Mud Factor is a crazy 5K run in the mud with obstacles! Tall obstacles, trenches, lots of upper body strength and balancing stuff...and I did it!
I haven't been doing the greatest at taking care of myself. I've been doing Zumba but I'm really slacking on giving my body what it needs food wise...so I was afraid of how this was all gonna turn out.
I'm sure I could have been stronger, but I didn't let self doubt stop me. We loaded up in our cars and rode out to my favorite pumpkin patch (which I will never look at the same again!) and braved less than 40 degree weather in the rain to 'run' in mud, climb up things, repel down things and generally get dirty!
I was with my Zumba family so there was no doubt I would finish and there is never anyone left behind! Funny thing, that was kind of the theme with everyone there! If you needed help, someone was there. The first vertical obstacle you had to climb up theses planks of wood then climb down the other side...easy right? WRONG!! I am not afraid of heights but I got up there, was straddling the top and was struck with fear!! I just started saying, "I'm stuck, I can't get down" and some guy who had finished already, climbed back up , stood right behind me and told me he wouldn't let me fall and told me how to get my other leg over...he didn't leave me until I was on the ground! That same obstacle one of my Zumba girls got to the top and froze...she's afraid of heights! As if on queue right as she started to look down (I was looking up at her) another Zumba friend yelled "don't you dare look down!" and she didn't...she closed her eyes tight, looked up at the sky and flung her leg over the top! The next vertical obstacle required you to climb up the side of a wall using a rope with knots in it to get to the top. I tried twice and just gave up...then, I realized another Zumba girl was still trying, she was NOT giving up! Because of her I tried again and I got to the top!!! She eventually got to the top with all of us cheering her on...she couldn't get her leg over and on her way back down fell and hit her shoulder, but she got up and kept going! Then there was the guy helping on this other wall you had to run up...and when he physically couldn't help anymore he told us how to make a human ladder to help another in our group who refused to give up...and we got her up!
This was just an amazing day...freezing cold, couldn't feel my fingers, didn't know if I was hurting or laughing...didn't care!
I posted a status that day that was from my diary on the day I decided to change my life...it was powerful to see that, on that day, I couldn't even get out of bed because of my back and yesterday I was doing this crazy muddy obstacle course! I have come a long way, I look forward to going so much further!!
This is by far more living than I ever thought I could do!
