(For some link love - and to see my widgets - check out my wordpress clone as it's much easier to link to what I want to over there: wp.me/p1N36Q-71
I'm looking at my sad photo from two months ago posted with my other widgets on Wordpress. My intent was to update that on a weekly basis as I managed to keep wheat out of my diet. It's a good reminder to myself that I need to get a good 14 day streak going. I should also probably update my weight stats, but I'm afraid to get on the scale. Sometimes, it's better not to know.
About a month ago, I had mentioned looking at all of this a different way - instead of rewarding weight loss, reward the behaviors you know will help you lose weight (become less anxious, have clearer skin, etc.) Gosh, was that really almost a month ago? Well, I received some inspiration on cool running things I wanted (as sported by other runners at AOR last weekend) I finally put together my reward jar, and have decided I will pull from it every 14 days binge free. Since my binge free/wheat free days aren't quite in sync, I figured I'd go with cutting out the behavior that's most distressing to me.
Why 14 days specifically? Well, there was a prior post about Dr. Phil Maffetone's two week test. Coincidentally, I have 14 days until my next race. Mark's Daily Apple recommends small wins - a month just seems too long.
Someone suggested to me last month to get my husband to buy in too - have him drop a few surprise rewards into the jar that he would be willing to do for me whenever I complete a new 14 day cycle. I thought that was a cool idea, and he's totally supportive. Anyway, here's what I know is in the jar:
- Compression Sleeves for Running
- Compression Socks
This Vera Bradley Smartphone Wristlet is also in there. One of the other AOR runners had one and I fell in love with it.
I think it's still good to have some long term, beyond 14-day goals as well. So for a full two months (60 days) binge free, I'm giving myself a full-on spa day - massage, facials, body wraps. Now there's something worth staying binge free for.
I won't give up on my long term weight loss goals. I think when I do finally hit it, I might take a mini vacation to one of these amazing spa resorts Shape Magazine told me about last week. Alright, maybe those might all be a little out of budget, but occasionally I'll see a Living Social deal for one closer to home that might be fun. I think a little escape will be well deserved at that point.
