Sunday - quilting progress and back to the pool

Sunday, May 05, 2013

Ahh was a great day. Woke up early off to drop off one quilt to te long arm quilters. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I'll get it back end of June.

Then off to the local farm stand for fresh vegetables and fruits. Yum.

I tried out this new battiting which you iron to the front and back of your quit top and back. I was leery on how it would work. First had to find a wide top to iron it on. The batting itself was much thinner than I liked when I unrolled it. I doubled it up. Because it had a type of adhesive on both sides unrolling it and straightening out the wrinkles took a bit of time Using my extra table I was able to lay out the bottom and the batting and then the top easily. The ironing was a dream. So much easier then bending over and pinning it. I did flip it over and ironed the back as well so I would make sure the adhesive really stuck. I'll try quilting it later this week but the hard part which I dread for each quilt so far was a breeze and better yet WITH NO LOWER BACK PAIN.

So for step 1 and 2 - much easier. The next step is the quilting. Will it hold up during that phase we'll see. Even if it doesn't I'm thinking because the first 2 steps were so easy I may reuse it and then put pins throughout to anchor it.

Sounds like we all dislike that part of the quilting process...

If your quilt sandwich starts to come apart when you're quilting it, you can always add a few pins here and there. Sounds like a lifesaver for your back! The two-month back log to get your other quilt finished sounds daunting; maybe some day I will have a backlog like that. For now, working my Day Job and taking quilting orders, I'm okay with having only four quilts lined up! Have a good week!

Glad it was easier on your back. Hope it works out well for you.

That sounds like real exercise! I ate that part but have figured out how to do it by spray basting the batting to the backing and lightly to the front, all the while making sure I keep the fabric smooth. Glad your back is better! All that swimming! emoticon

I pinned a quilt yesterday and used our church platform to lay it out so that I wouldn't have to bend over. Whatever works!!! Keep Sparkin'!!

Sounds like a busy and productive day. Post a picture of your finished quilt.
I quilt too.
