I just can't bring myself to take those thyroid pills yet, so I'm seeing a Chinese Medicine practitioner now, and he thinks there is no reason my thyroid shouldn't be able to heal itself, if it has the tools it needs and if my health is balanced.
So far I have an herbal tea to drink each day, and a lot of dietary changes. I'm trying to follow his advice as closely as I can because I'll be going back to the NP in a few weeks and I am hoping to see some improvement in my thyroid function. It will be easy to tell if this holistic treatment is helping or not because I am not taking any meds at all, just the herbal stuff my practitioner prescribed to me, and the diet changes he suggested.
Hopefully I'll start losing some weight too, although this new diet is closer to 1800 calories. That is what spark recommends if you want to lose one pound a week. To tell you the truth, I'd be ecstatic with a lb a week. I haven't lost any more weight after that initial 9 lbs. I don't know what I weigh right now. I've seriously got to invest in a scale.
I guess if the Chinese Medicene can't help my thyroid, I'll have no choice but to take the meds but I am going to give this a real chance before I give in and get on the pharmaceuticals.
