Didn't stick to my exercise plan today as the weather was so deliciously balmy, I ended up cleaning out the chicken compound. The gals watched closely as I worked for five hours raking and rearranging their litter and cleaning out their house. Now I have three full compost bins and the chooks are in lovely clean shavings and sawdust. I sprinkled each of them with diatomaceous earth to keep mites at bay, and gave them a pedicure with oil to make sure their legs stay untroubled by mites. They all look so much the better for their experience, and they are ready for a cosy winter with dry feet. If the weather holds tomorrow I will transplant all the old strawberries from my vegetable patch into their compound to give them something to nibble on.

You had a busy day with lots of exercise. Good for both you and the chickens.

Sounds like lots of good exercise but...phew!
I remember coops from my childhood and they were a bit noxious in the summer.

Now that's a workout for sure, and your feather-babies are so much better for it. I'm sure the strawberries will show you a lots of juicy thanks, too. You must feel really good every time you look over at those happy chicks. emoticon emoticon
