Always Room for Improvement - Tales from 100# Down

Sunday, May 05, 2013

I've learned so much on this journey. Some has been by trial and error. Some has been from Sparkpeople articles and blogs. Some has been wisdom shared by someone further along on the journey that has faced the obstacles that are directly in my path.

Some lessons have to be repeated. It's a lot like when I learned long division in grade school. It didn't happen overnight! Personally I would rather face 1500 calories a day and 60 minutes of cardio than a page full of long division problems but I digress. Ha!

Looking ahead to the next 12 week challenge round I'm pondering what I will do "differently" or "better". I am going to share my list with you in hope that it might help YOU identify areas on your own journey that might need some tweaking. If yours are different from mine - please share in the comments. We ALL learn so much from each other.

Here's my "Punch List" :

1) Continue to diminish restaurant meals in favor of healthy cooking at home.
2) Work on keeping sugar levels very low.
3) Do more walking outdoors as the weather now permits.
4) Organize the pantry/refrigerator and develop healthy menus/grocery lists
5) Continue to declutter all areas of my life.
6) Live "TODAY" instead of "when I lose the weight".

That's my list. Those are the areas that need the most tweaking. When I began this journey my list had basic issues like eating in range, getting cardio, tracking food, drinking water, etc. These are all my "norm" now. It just shows that we CAN make radical changes in our lifestyle... in fact for most of us that's exactly what is required.

Pressing On!

I appreciate the time that you take to share your thoughts. I need to really focus on just one or two things for the next challenge...last time I was trying to do everything. Your blog has got me thinking about what should be on my list.

  emoticon BLOG!

My big and frustrating goal is organizing a whole lot of stuff, that can't be donated or discarded, into a much smaller space. We all know where frustration can lead and I resolve not to go there. emoticon

As always, your blog is very well written and hits right on the subject at hand. I agree with your lists and must work to tidy my living space. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

For grocery lists and meal plans, I seem to repeat the ones from the past. That's the reason I like to track on paper and keep it.

1. As gardening season enters into full swing, I need to keep my walking consistent with what I've been doing. 10,000 steps + my gardening is going to be difficult to maintain.

2. A temporary obstacle--dental work will require a liquid diet. I need to plan ahead for that.

Other areas I can stay the course.

Thank you for pointing out that a lot of what I would put on my tweaking list is what I already do and has become a part of my lifestyle. Something I just do naturally. Wow! I feel like that is a non scale victory for me! Again Thank you!

Great list! I think the hardest for me is #6, living for today instead of when I lose the weight. I am feeling so much better about myself since I've lost 52 lbs, but I am only 1/3 of the way there. There are so many things my husband wants to do, but I feel too self-conscious to get out there and try new things. I keep thinking that I will do it when I am thinner. I really need to stop doing that.

Thanks for posting this blog, it really made me think and I really want to work on #6!

There is always a room for improvement if we keep moving forward and think positive always.
Good day.
