In previous weeks I felt like the time was moving slowly and the weeks seemed to last forever. Those other weeks went by real fast compared to this last week!

After not working for 4.5 years and draining my bank account from almost 20k down to $63.00 I knew that I needed to get some help. So I bit the bullet and went down to my local county office. They signed me up for a few hundred dollars of cash aid and a few hundred dollars of food stamps for me and my son. In exchange I have to participate in a community service program to the tune of 32 hours a week. This wouldn't be so bad if there were actually 32 hours worth of work for me to do at my assigned location (local Employment Development Dept. office, supposedly one of the best assignments). I started working there on Tuesday and each day seemed like a week, I'm so bored! On my feet for about 7 hours out of 8, trying to find things to do to keep busy. If I had hair I'd be pulling it out. So what I'm trying to say is that this week was probably the slowest of my life!

Now, being a student would normally have exempted me from doing this, but since my school isn't an old fashioned 'bricks and mortar' institution, they won't count it. If I were going to a regular school earning 12 units per semester, I'd be good. Instead though I work at my own pace taking online classes and have averaged 20 units per semester for 5 semesters, working about 20-30 hours a week on my studies. My school has the same accreditation as the University of Washington, Washing State, University of Utah, etc. so it's not due to my school being a 'fly by night' institution. Conversely, it's the fastest growing university in the nation and it's non-profit so the costs are much lower than conventional schools, I pay about $6,000 per year working towards my degree in business.

With going back to work this week, I've been too exhausted to workout. I come home, change out of the work clothes, check my email, check Spark, have a little dinner and then try to stay awake for a couple of hours before I finally go to bed.

This blog post is absolutely way too long already, so let's get to the numbers for the week.

A one lb loss for the week! I was really happy to see that after the week I had. It makes me hopeful that I can still lose a little even if my day is spent doing trivial things, like working.

    Ken, you've had a heck of a week, it's great that you still had a lose. It's amazing to me how you managed to stretch 20,00 dollars over 4.5 years. I thought I was good at stretching my money but I must say, you by far are much better than me. emoticon

I know its can be challenging trying to adjust to the changes in your life but I'm glad to know that you still have that sense of humor.

I hope things get easier for you soon.

    Awesome Job Bro!!! It's amazing to post a loss even when we don't have to kill ourselves in the gym. Sometimes when we do kill ourselves in the gym we post a gain. It just goes to show that it all evens out if we keep the habits up and just stay busy! Great job this week!

    Hey Ken, sounds like a heck of a week, I feel for you! Hang in there, God has a plan for you and things will all work out for you.

I'm sure you were thrilled to see that pound gone...one more down! Congrats!!

I went to Calloway Gardens, in Pine Mountain Georgia this past weekend with my TOPS group. TOPS stands for Taking Off Pounds Sensibility, not sure if you've ever heard of the support group or not. It was started back in the 50's and is now world wide. I originally joined a chapter in the late 70's. I became a Chapter Leader and was Leader for about 4 years. During that time I reached my goal weight and became Chapter Queen in 1989. In 1991 I lost my KOPS status (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly) and finally dropped out. I've gone back for periods of time, the group always helped me to stay focused. I rejoined this January and it's helping me stay on my losing streak. It isn't expensive, dues run about $2 a week, but the contest and monthly awards I've gotten over $100 in awards for my loses, contest, etc. Where else could you go and get paid for losing?!! I'm sure you have a chapter in your area, check on-line if you're interested.

You are soooo worth it, just remember that! I hope this week is better for you~

    I am not working now and I miss the structure of a work day. Now I can trundle down to the kitchen when I please....not good! It's too bad this community work is not more fulfilling and I hope your study time does not suffer. The loss is great but I think of you as someone at goal already anyway...if you want to change things up then you probably will have to change things up in your routine.

    Great work on the loss.

Great work on the bullet biting too, it's hard when you have been used to 'having money'. It's about your thinking isn't it really? It gets you out of the house, its something to do, you are earning the money you get. Also you can still continue your degree.

We were down to nothing as well last week but DH got a call to go to a machine and then another one so that is one WHOLE weeks work instead of one job every fortnight.

Will be thinking of you next week, hope it gets a little easier. emoticon emoticon emoticon
