Ode to a Grapefruit? -- 2013-05-04 (Last Updated 2013-05-04, v2)
Today's Sponsor is Fruits & Vegetables
As I've mentioned, I'm a fan of fruits and vegetables -- fresh, dried, cooked -- any, and all.
Some produce, however, I'm binary about. When the fruit is good, I'm ecstatic about it's taste, and when it's not, I'm deeply disappointed. Apples are a good example. When apples are crisp, not overripe, and tasty I'm a huge fan, when they're mealy (e.g., McIntosh), or overripe, or over-sweet (e.g., Galas), I can barely get them "down", if at all. Moreover, in general, I don't like any fruit when most people think it's at the peak of ripeness. Bananas are special along this dimension, I won't eat a banana that doesn't show significant signs of green. (My daughter shares this odd taste in fruit with me.)
Grapefruit is a special case. No matter what, I like grapefruit. The problem with grapefruit, however, is that when it's especially sour (acidic), it doesn't "like" me. Anyway, starting in April, of this year, the grapefruit has been fantastic. The best I've ever tasted -- by far. Even weirder, the worse the grapefruit looks, the better it tastes. And the taste, it's unbelievably sweet, and unbelievably concentrated. It's all I can do to confine myself to one grapefruit a day. (This is an economic/refrigerator space issue not a calorie issue.)
* Workout went better, yesterday. I could have increased more, but I decided discretion was the better part of valor. It's a good thing because by the time I went to bed, my legs and back were bothering me again. This morning after a monumental amount of sleep, I felt much better.
* Stayed within calories yesterday.
* Weight down, this AM.
* Tomorrow is weigh-in.
* Off to the YMCA, now.
