It's roughly the one-month point, so I made myself weigh in this morning although I felt pretty blah (not weight-related). Another 2.1 lbs down, surprisingly, which brings my total for the (approximate) month to 16.5 lbs lost.
I had a sort of revealing moment this past week while out of town for work. My colleagues and I went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant (one of my ironclad favorites), and I had ordered a salad to my specifications, which worked really well. Afterward one colleague said, "You didn't even eat a single chip!" I looked at her and said, "Well, honestly, chips aren't a big temptation for me; it's enchiladas that are. But yes, I'm pretty ruthless."
Now to be perfectly honest I'm planning my own splurge meal tomorrow, making enchiladas of my own, but these will be a healthier version of them with no manteca (beef tallow). But yes, I am deadly serious about losing this weight, but I am also committed at this point to avoiding food and drink items that put things in my body that don't need to be there. It's not just about losing weight. It's more than that -- it's about making choices that add to overall health. I have a lot of cholesterol points to lose, too. Not to mention four different blood pressure medications I take on a daily basis.
So anyway. It sort of amused me, because she seemed so shocked. What is shocking about it?
This puts me 3.5 lbs short of my first mini-goal, which is very cool. And I'm off work this next week for some vacation days, and this is a good way to kick it off. Now to get the house sorted, crosstraining shoes purchased, and get cracking on the walking program. I had said I'd start after I lost the first 20 lbs based on the back pain I was having, but that has improved immensely already (and my foot and ankle swelling has nearly vanished), so no time like right now.
