Squeezing the Joy Out of Every Day

Saturday, May 04, 2013

Today while I was enjoying my run on this gorgeous spring day, I was thinking about how blessed I am to be able to run. I'm blessed to get the opportunity to run or exercise. Many people are not able to due to physical limitations. I don't have to, I get to. Then I started thinking about a friend's brother who passed away this week. He was only about 50, just two or three years older than I am. He was very lonely, depressed, wracked with pain and dependent on painkillers. He was not enjoying his life at all. I am so sad for him, that he was so unhappy. It just makes me want to squeeze everything I can out of every day, grab all the joy that God has put before me. Part of that is keeping my body in good working order, and as I do that, my mind and emotions naturally follow. When I exercise, I listen to music, and a lot of times it's a worshipful experience for me as I meditate on the words. Today as I was finishing up my run, Kirk Franklin was singing these words. I thought you guys might find them as inspiring as I did. Here are some excerpts from the song.

Declaration (This Is It)

There've been times in my life
I'm tired and I wanna give up
Why is the world getting so crazy?
I've come too far to die now.
If you're a survivor, get up! Let's get it!

Are you ready for your miracle?
God's people, it's time to stand up and fight.
Let's get it, let's get it. This is it!
You can't mess with my mind anymore.
This is it!
I'm smarter, see, I've been here before.
This is it!
It's a new day, I'm not afraid anymore.
This is it!
Yes, I believe, if you believe, help me say.

I look back now, I look at how you tried to break me.
Take my life, my peace of mind and drive me crazy.
My self esteem, my dreams, my destiny.
So God allowed it, because He knew He had big plans for me!

Everybody that's been holding you down, look at them and tell them
This is it! I feel my help coming on right now, y'all.

You think that maybe it's over. Your life ain't over
Not unless you want it to be
Are you gonna wait for a sign? Your miracle.
Stand up and fight.

The song is awesome. If you want, download it for your iPod! Have a great weekend!
