JUST BECAUSE WE CAN
Getting permission to do something was always a great feeling when we were young. We got excited about getting permission to go out with friends, date, and drive a car alone. It was an exciting feeling when we heard the word “yes” because we were allowed to do something. However, sometimes we took that permission to mean we were allowed to do anything. Sometimes we still do even as adults. Being allowed to do something does not give us permission to do things that will lead us away from God.
1 Corinthians 6:12 “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. And even though ‘I am allowed to do anything,’ I must not become a slave to anything.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us today not to go overboard with what permissions You have given us. Help us to be sure we don’t do what could destroy us and others. We know You give us many freedoms but the freedoms and choices we have are not permissions to do what is not good for us. We know that doing some things will cause us to be a slave to them and take us away from You. Thank You for your guidance, Your direction and Your loving hand that keeps us in line with what Your will is for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Many of us who are given an inch, will take a mile. Let’s use our freedoms wisely so we are helping and not hurting others.
There are many things we can do that could easily become excessive and that we obsess over. Let’s be sure we stay focused on God today.
Knowing what God wants for us in our lives will help us stay in line with His will.
We need to be sure we don’t become so obsessed with our freedoms that we do what could destroy us and others.
Our bodies are created in God’s image and we should be sure we keep them as He wants us to. That means staying away from obsessions and staying in line with His will.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (NLT)
