The Late-Night Ramblings of a Wired Mind

Saturday, May 04, 2013

I have learned that, after a good session with my amazing personal trainer, my body is wired with energy for 10 - 12 hours afterward. It is after 2:00 AM and I find myself in the family room hammering away at the keyboard trying to piece my thoughts together in a positive, reflective way.

It is not at all hard to be positive about the day's events and the session I had with my trainer, Ross Gilbert, today. I am thoroughly in awe of what my body is now able to do under his tutelage. I have more flexion and extension in my knees now than I have had in years and have improved my overall mobility/flexibility in ways I could not have imagined. I was actually able to get from a position of being on my knees comfortably (an overwhelming painful position I have not been able to assume in many, many years) to "walking" myself upright using my hands/arms/shoulders to a standing position! This is something I have not been able to do in at least 7 years!!! It almost brought me to tears and I stood there looking at the floor for a good 2-3 minutes in awe of that.

I cannot express strongly enough the gratitude I am feeling: for Ross' willingness to share his expertise, for the fact that I am finally taking the opportunity to do something for my personal health, and for the warmth and support of quality people as I walk this journey.

It is awesome when you push your limits and it pays off. It also helps to keep you motivated when you learn that you can do things you did not know that you could.
