Is the Diabetes Over?

Saturday, May 04, 2013

Well, this is a rather dramatic development in my life....... I have not had to have insulin for a week now. I was injecting 4 times a day, 20-40 units of insulin each time.... and its over. Today I put away the insulin as a symbolic ending to this part of my life.
I have been eating differently, for just 12 days. NO grains, NO dairy, NO additives, sugars subs, preservatives or anything fake.

I am only eating REAL food and only fruit, vegetables, meats, nuts, and olive oil.

I am able to make a ton of different things with these food groups. My physical cravings have stopped. I am back in the gym swimming, today was day 4 of aquacize and swimming, 90 to 110 minutes a shot. I can have pure olive oil and vinegar dressing so I can have the Newman's Olive oil and vinegar. I can make my own too out of the right real ingredients.

Obviously this is the Paleo or caveman (woman) diet. I never thought I would be able to eat this way. I kept hearing about it, my renal dietician told me about it a year ago. I heard about it from a fave baseball player most recently. I kept hearing about it, and I was desperate. I have been sick, severe diabetes, failing kidneys, overweight, NO energy, No motivation.

Its all turned around now. And SparkPeople has helped me track my food, my exercise all of it, I love the people I have connected with. Who knew?

It took me a little willingness to get onboard with the Paleo, I was not too eager, but I did not know what else to do.

The inflammation has decreased and the energy increased. I am about 50% now, which is better than the 10-20% that I was a couple of weeks ago, or rather 13 days ago. Yes, I said dramatic and it is that for sure. So I will hope to remain willing and to do this one day at a time..... its kind of essential.

hi Ms. Jilly, I just want to share my thoughts for diabetes. What worked for my mom and I mean it only took a week and a half to get off meds.

it is a 30/15 ration on carbs. We werent counting calories and we ate from whole foods. so that is 30 g. of complex carbs at every meal, and 15 g. carbs for snacks. snacks either a piece of fruit or a half of fruit. ie; half apple and an oz or two of cheese or avacado. its very important to have fats when eating carbs to slow down the process of insulin and the spiking/dropping. once we adjusted those portions, we casually increased carbs but not servings and watched how it worked with the monitor 2 hours. so for example. 7 am was 30 g. of good carbs, protien, two hour monitor than we had a snack. this helps us to determine the snack too. with in 10 days the doctors eliminated her two pills before meals 2x a day and from 60 units of insulin at night, we ended up within 3 weeks 15 units. also they took a bllod prssure med aways and reduce another one. Less meds. and my mom felt great and loves the 30/15. always have protien preferrably plant based but red meats we reduced greatly.... your doing a great job and I look forward to reading your blogs. Have a blessed day

What an absolutely exciting and emoticon outcome you have had by becoming willing to do what you needed to do for your health. I have read many, many stories like yours in the literature, as well as people being cured of all sorts of other disorders of the mood and body just from switching to the Paleo (or Primal) way of eating. There is even a woman who blogs about remediating all her symptoms of MS. It is really impressive what you've been able to accomplish in such a short time.

    this am was 83 fasting

everyday has been below 129 at fasting, and I was in the 200's WITH the insulin 2 weeks ago I just had no control at all, because of what I was eating, which was NO sugar by the way, but I was eating grain and dairy every day, that is over now.
