I talked to my landlord today about the money situation. They told me that if I'm not paid in full by the 12th I'll be evicted and sued for legal costs. The friend who promised me a loan backed out on me. I'm clinging by a ragged thread to the hope that my tax money will be here before the 12th or I truly don't know what I'll do. My boss has already dismissed the matter from her mind.

I've had all I can stand. It just keeps coming and coming and coming. I don't think I'm a bad person. I don't understand this crap keeps happening.

    in order for a landlord to evict someone, they have to have just cause...like not paying rent at all for several months, then they have to give you at least 30 days notice. I know because of the number of times my sister was evicted.

    Take a deep breath, believe that you're a good person, and the landlord cannot toss you out for just being 1 month behind in rent! It is going to work out!

    Oh Mary such a lot you've been through lately and now this! No wonder you feel at the breaking point and very scared about what you will do. But I think the others are right HR should be able and willing to help, and the landlord can't evict without first a written notice, and then they have to go thru court proceedings and by that time you will have your tax money and be paid up. Also in most states they cannot evict you for non-payment of one month's rent, though they can charge a late fee for it. Take some deep breaths and relax and think what you can do. Above all don't let them stampede and bally hoo you! I don't know if you are a praying woman but this is the time to talk to God about all this. Having all the things to happen all at once does not make you a bad person, and God is not punishing you for some reason. Bad things often happen to really good people. And based on what I've seen and read on SP you are a really really terrific person. emoticon Hold on tight and stay strong just a little longer. My Grand daddy used to say its always darkest before the dawn.

    Yes go to the HR and tell them about what your boss did and didn't do. On the other hand, your landlord is just trying to scare and they can't throw you out for being one month behind.

    First of all....breathe.
    The comments here are right. It is mighty hard to just kick someone out on the street in the USA (I grew up there.) It will take them a while. You will have your money long before they can do a thing. So no time pressure.

    Next, it really would be a good idea to go to HR and tell them the story. Tell them that through that error you are being threatened...etc. Plead your case and they should be pretty good about it.

    You don't really need this right now, but if you handle it calmly, you should be ok.

    I hope you can speak to someone in your HR department that may be able to give your boss's chain a good yank.

    I really hope that your tax refund arrives soon and I agree with the others, find out about rental laws in your state.

    Check the eviction laws in your state. I don't know of ANY jurisdiction (CERTAINLY NOT ANYWHERE IN FLORIDA) where you can be EVICTED in the same month you are LATE on rent. You MAY have to pay a LATE FEE; but I seriously DOUBT you can be evicted!
    It sounds like the landlord is doing a lot of HUFFING & PUFFING!

    Oh, Lord, what a day you've had! I'm so sorry your friend backed out on the loan! My husband has a rental property and I had the task of evicting the last tenant for non payment of rent--7 months worth. It was a week before I got a court date, then she was given 30 days to pay. Which, of course, she didn't. So back to court I went for a sherriff's eviction. She got almost a year rent free. So, yes, it is a long drawn out process. But, according to the judge(in TX, anyway) you can't evict for less than 3 months' of non payment of rent.

    But I'll keep you in my thoughts!

    You know your landlord can not evict you for being one month behind. They can threaten all they like, but it is a long drawn out process.
