Lots of activity today! I was out in the garden by 7.30 am, moved the compost heap to another bin, spread some of the rotted compost, planted a viola, a phlox and a dianthus - pot plants I bought at Shakespeare's Birthplace last year and didn't get round to planting, and then dug over for the rest of my 90 mins.
We had to take Beanie, the cat, to the vet as he had a wound on his head - probably fighting - and I wanted to get him chipped ready for the new catflap which should arrive tomorrow. It took us quite a time to get him back the house and then another fight to get him in the cat box. He wasn't impressed, but I was very impressed with his behaviour at the vets. I was expecting him to be spitting and biting, but he behaved beautifully and didn't even flinch when the vet took off the scab along with his hair, and then followed up with an antibiotic injection and the microchip. He now has a bald patch and a fresh, but clean little hole in his head!
When we got back we collected the wherewithall to plant the potatoes in my brother's garden which I use as an allotment. We make a good team, DH and I. He drove in the stakes and between us we pulled a line tightly between so we plant in straight lines, then I spread rotted horsemanure along the line and sprinkled chicken pellets while he measured and placed the seed potatoes for planting and I followed behind him planting. It took us the best part of 90 mins, by which time I was totally bushed.
Daisy got a short walk later but she had plenty of exercise haring round the garden while I was busy digging and then later on when DH was out there.
