"You"

If you receive Runner's magazine you may have read the article "You". The message and content have stuck with me since reading it. People often comment to me about how much I work out, what I do and do not eat, and why I spend so much time at the gym. This article is why. There are so many people who make a choice to not work out, eat processed foods, and never leave their couch. I am not one of them. Why? Because I can move, I crave high intensity, and I love good food. I cannot imagine a day that I wake up and am not able to do or eat the things I love. I run, bike, lift, SWEAT, hike, kayak because I can. Because there are many that I cant, and I never want to take it for granted.
This article is about a man who was hit by a truck at age 6. The doctors never thought he would walk again. He ended up losing all his teeth, having to have his pelvis and legs reconstructed and still has paralysis in his right arm. Eventually his brother got him to run a 5K after many years of therapy, and he went on to run a marathon. He has completed many races since he's started running, and never thought he couldn't do it. "You never know if you can't if you never try."
So until I can't, I will.
Started this Friday off with a 20 mile spin. SWEAT this evening, and a pup walk and a bike ride with my hubby. I do it because I can.

    Wow I am going to get that article. My DH is one of the ones who has issues with my activity and food choices. In the last year I have chosen to adopt a vegan lifestyle but i still cook meat and make any meat dish they ask for. I love veggies and actually feel they are my comfort food now and he thinks i am weird. I have lost weight and was running but I quit running after I ran a marathon a few years ago. I still jog and walk several miles per day and try to find ways at work to keep active as i have a desk job.
    I say if you can do it then use every resource you have to enjoy it. i wish you more success and less questions on the journey to better health emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I totally agree. I am determined to be active because I am able and I shouldn't take that for granted.

    I haven't read that article yet. I need to do that.
