I am so tired of being "that" person. You know, the one that sits back and watches everyone else running around, playing, climbing up the hills, etc. I used to be the one in the middle of all the fun...boating... swimming pool football....biking... Anyways, I took my son and my niece and nephew to the Warrior Dash last year and they loved it. I watched them and wished I was running and climbing and jumping over the obstacles with them. It is my goal to go with them next year. I am not sure if I will be able to compete in such an event, but this is my ultimate goal.
Three years ago I had a terrible infection that settled in my back. Nobody can figure out how it happened, but somehow I had a sack of infection in my back(for lack of a better term). By the time we figured out what was happening, I was in excruciating pain. I was hospitalized and they planned to give me antibiotics and give me an MRI to locate the infection. Before the MR I was completed, I had no more feeling or movement in my lower body. The infection had grown and placed pressure on my nerves and spine. They rushed me to emergency surgery to remove the infection. 44 staples in my back. yeah. I could not feel or move anything from my lower ribs to my toes. A few week later I was learning to walk again on tingling and numb lower body.
I still have some difficulty with the sensations in my legs, feet, and midsection of my body. I have been working on moving faster and rebuilding coordination and muscle strength. Some movements are very awkward still...like kicking and jumping. I know that when I began walking again, I did not develop my muscles correctly, so now I am concentrating on losing the weight and starting to walk and jog.
A few days ago I bought the application for my phone called "Couch to 5K". I haven't completed an entire workout cycle yet, but I hope to be able to do the walk and jog intervals for the 30 minutes by May 15th, So......today I bought running shoes. (Not walking shoes like usual)
