Wake Up! Time For Bench Presses!

Maybe the eye doctor is right and I am too old for this crap. I'm having issues with my contacts again... around 3PM each day, they get so dry and cloudy and I feel like I have rocks under my eyelids. It totally zaps my energy, man. There's just something about dry fuzzy eyes that just wipes you out!

I don't have glasses. I broke mine about 2 years ago and never got new ones. I know I really, really need glasses. I've only really been hesitating because in my lab, you can't be in there in just glasses- if you are wearing glasses you must put safety glasses on over them- which is uncomfortable as all get-out. So I would never want to wear my glasses to work anyway! It's a lose-lose. Some people sneak around in just glasses though and I'm not a stickler for rules... especially when it comes to lab safety. Gimme a break. It's a BSL-2. Get over yourselves, people... anyway...

My eyes have been making me so tired in the afternoon. I get a horrific afternoon slump ANYWAY and I just couldn't deal with it anymore! I took my lens solution to work and when I changed for CrossFit, took my lenses out, washed them, rinsed them, squirted that stuff all in my eyes and down my face :P It helped a lot. Then for good measure I splashed cold water on my face for extra wake-up and went to CrossFit PUMPED. And it's a good thing I did too, because this one was killer.

15 bench presses

I have no idea why I was so pumped for this because I HATE rowing! I also found out I hate bench presses, LOL. My chest is pretty weak, it's something I always neglected on my own. Something I really like about CrossFit is it's forcing me to work on parts I skip when I am by myself (chest and core being the main things).

Those bench presses got heavy! I failed several times. The coach was spotting me and I just kept saying "This SUCKS" every time I pressed up. LOL. He thought that was pretty funny... And the rowing sucked.... it all just sucked! :D But as they say- CrossFit: where the fun sucks and the suck is fun!

My chest and arms are shaking. I just know, already, I am going to wake up sore as HECK tomorrow. I just know it. That is what happens when bench presses get heavy and you have basically never worked your chest before.

There is NO WAY I am missing tomorrow!!!! Heavy squats for strength, then a running/air squat WOD! Bring on the leg fire!!!!!!!

    I have the same contact problems. It's not fun! But way to come up with a solution (no pun intended, of course)!

I have two Spark friends now who blog about CrossFit. I'm starting to love it, even though I've never done it. It's interesting to see how much we can do when someone else pushes us. They don't have the limits our minds set for ourselves. I hope I can try this someday!

    Yay for the workout, but not cool about the contacts! Is it the brand or model, do you think? I used to get dry eyes really easily in my old contacts, and then I switched to a more breathable gas permeable kind that made a HUGE difference. Plus I use the Clear Care acid solution stuff to clean/store them overnight, which makes them feel a lot better for a lot longer than just soaking them in basic saline. Alternatively, if you've got the $$, there's always LASIK! or something similar. My brother-in-law had vision that was too crappy for normal laser surgery, so he basically got permanent contact lenses implanted in his eyes surgically and it works great for him. Anyways. Enjoy being sore. :)

    Embrace the suck! Bench presses, overhead presses, squats, and deadlifts....that's what good little boys and girls are made of!

    I've only done bench presses a couple of times, but I like it. I also like push-ups though. Just not in the moment. If you ask me while I'm doing them, I'll use lots of 4-letter words that don't sound like I like it. But inside, I'm smiling. Sounds like you had a great workout!

    I have that same issue with my contacts as well. They aren't comfortable at all, so I stick with my glasses most of the time!

    Where I used to work, safety glasses were manditory as well. I wear glasses so I know how having to wear a set of safeties can be hard on the eyes (to many layers of glare). I was able to get a pair of prescription safety glasses, you should check into them, they saved me a lot of headaches, AND! I could use them while running the weed eater and other tools around the house. :)

    I stopped reading after the contact problems you're having because I was like YESSSSSSS ME TOO!!!! I've been rubbing my eyes for hours because of my contacts, and I have the same problem as you! Around 3pm my eyes dry out and hurt and by 9pm my eyes are so dry it makes me tired and I go to bed. I know I should probably put my glasses on when I get home but I also need new glasses and haven't bought them. I want laser eye surgery but don't want to pay for it!

Good job on pushing through the suck. You might hurt tomorrow but it will be glorious going forward!
