Negative choices

Thursday, May 02, 2013

I really like the quote I have listed about cheeseburgers. It describes how I lived my life for so many years. The cheeseburgers, pizzas, etc. really were a day to day problem. I went to Jazzercise for years. It was great fun to me. But I was not losing weight. Now that I look back I realize that in spite of the hour long classes I went to a few times per week, I had not changed my eating habits. If I had just thought about it in a sensible manner, I would have realized that exercise is not the only tool to use in a weight loss program - duh! The bad foods gave me health problems and a big belly. I do know now that the combination will do wonders for for our body. My mission is to tell others, especially younger individuals, that you need to do both. I wish I had learned this 15 years ago when I could still pull off some tighter skirts or pants. emoticon

It's like the CEO of Lay's potato chips came up with "Betcha can't eat just one" Now that is the same technique used by drug dealers to get you hooked. If you can get just one for free, they have you for life. One chain around your waist is nothing, it's when you wake up later and find you can't move because of all the chains around you. So stick to it, my dear. I know you are a winner. emoticon

    Yep, wish I had learned 15, or 30, years ago . . .

You offer us great words of wisdom here, Linda - it really *is* those long-term patterns which get us where we happen to be at present rather than the occasional splurge. I never found that exercise compensated for my lack of accountability when it came to eating, either. The only way I can really keep my weight off, at this point, is through very careful tracking. For me, anyway, that's what's getting the job done! All the best to you - Susan emoticon

So true, food choices matter. And portion sizes. I'm a picky eater, but find ways to improve my choices, ... no excuses!

It really is a difficult lesson for many of us to internalize, but once we do, it makes all the difference in the world for our commitment to our health. Good for you for making the connection and sharing it with others!!

Yes, you can't out exercise a bad diet :P. I love my Zumba and enjoy many other workouts, but it was finally getting my food under control that took the weight off once and for all. Hard lessons learned.
