I have made it through a whole year on SparkPeople!
It has been a challenge to say the least, but I have made so many positive changes to my lifestyle.
The most exciting part is that over the past year I have lost 50 pounds! I can't believe that I made it. My goals have been to lose 10% at a time, usually giving myself about 4-6 months to do it. Then for a while I just tried to maintain. There were times when the loss was steady, times when it stopped and times when there were gains. It always seems that the gains are more significant than the losses, but obviously not in the long run!
What has worked for me? TRACKING MY FOOD was the most important. When I first started I wasn't really trying to cut back too much, I just wanted to know what I was eating. I was shocked to find out how many calories I ate and it didn't take long to learn what foods were really high calorie. Just being aware helped me cut way back on my calories. STAYING IN MY CALORIE RANGE became my next focus. I purposefully set long term weight loss goals so that I wouldn't cut my calories too much. I knew if I felt really deprived I wouldn't last long. It didn't take long to get used to how much I could have. Then I noticed that I didn't feel miserable after eating too much at a meal, and I didn't miss that feeling. Last was EXERCISE and I'll admit, I'm still not great at this one. I am better than I was and I know because now I get trophies for exercise minutes more often than not. I can also make it through Coach Nicole's workouts better, and my walks are longer.
I know that a picture is worth a thousand words so I will add some new pictures to my page and you can see for yourself.
Looking back at the goals I set when I first joined:
Lose the flabby rolls - check!
Look better in shorts and bathing suits - well...I definitely look better but I'm still not sure how comfortable I am - half a check!
Run, walk, dance when I want - check!
Cross my legs - check!
What amazing things have happened this year. I can't wait to see what year 2 will bring!
