I have been taking the Deep Water Fitness class at my local Y for about 2 months now. It is a great work-out and lots of fun. There are a lot of interesting "water resistance" tools we can use during the class and , since I hadn't yet tried the ankle "weights," I decided last night to give them a shot.
WOW! What a difference they make to the amount and type of work-out I am giving my legs and thighs during class! Despite the first 20 minutes of trying to adapt to having small floats on my ankles and finding the keys to staying upright in the water (definite ab engagement and constant feet motion), it didn't take long for me to see the immediate benefits.
This morning when I woke up, I definitely knew I had done something different by the twinges and complaints from my thigh muscles. That was a good thing, though, because it tells me that I wasn't working as hard in class as I believed I was.
You have to love progress, even when it cramps on you!
