Last night I had congee
which I wish was better
which I wish was a sweet date with my husband
where we laughed and touched hands
and asked about each other's day
and lingered too late at the restaurant.
we had congealed rice
too many peppers
I want the food to be so good I don't have to do the work.
I want the food to make the experience for me.
Because sometimes it does.
Now I am learning the meaning
little by little
stomach ache by stomach ache
Of not using food as a reward.
How will I reward myself today?
