Sure, why not test my thyroid...getting older sucks

Thursday, May 02, 2013

I went in yesterday for my annual physical. I've been dreading it, I've gained weight, I have issues I have been procrastinating about or just been in straight denial.
I had to go in 7 weeks ago to just see my doc so she would renew my HBP pills. I don't want to take them, I hate them and I actually call them my anger management pills.
First thing she says when she walks in is great job on the weight loss, 7lbs. in 7 weeks, how did you do it? I just looked at her like

I told her that the only thing different I've been doing is drinking a cup of Kombucha every morning, the C25K program and walking at my son's baseball practices at least for 30 minutes. No strength training boot camp or yoga.
The rest of the appointment was kind of routine, then I told her about my eyelashes straightening. Seriously, I can't curl them anymore, they are just sraight, I've even thought maybe I could perm them but I just can't bring myself to pay for something like that.

Well, she told me that they are going to test my thyroid. I'm really curious to hear the results. I've never even thought about thyroid issues, I have the I'm not old enough attitude, denial. I also have the onset of carpal tunnel in my right hand aaannndd need to have my foot checked out by the Ortho people again.

Yay!!! Have a great day!!

I never associated straight eye lashes with thyroid disease. I have been hypo since after the birth of my first child 23 years ago. My problem started with numbness in my hands (I was afraid I would drop the baby), weight gain (who doesn't gain weight with pregnancy) and tireness (again new baby). Over the years I have come to accept that some things are more difficult when you have thyroid problems - like losing weight quickly. (Although 7 pounds in 7 weeks is FANTASTIC!) But being on the right medicine has not stopped me from doing all the things I want to do, so don't fret the small stuff.

Thyroid unfortunately isn't all old people stuff - I got diagnosed at 21! Just think - you could be losing weight and feeling awesome if they find you have issues and you start treating them! It can make a world of difference, so definitely get it checked! Of course I hope they tell you that it is fine, but just in case, know that it leads to good things!
