There are people in this world who attempt to teach certain ways of living hoping others will follow their ways in an attempt to find peace and meaning in life. Their teachings may be against what God teaches us so we have to be careful not to follow them. However, there are idols that do not speak at all. There are things we worship and cling to in search for peace and purpose. These idols are speechless idols and when we focus on them rather than God, we are doing the same things as those who worshiped pagan idols long ago. We are moving away from God and toward the things of the world. We need to identify what keeps us from doing God’s will and ask Him to help us get rid of these things.
1 Corinthians 12:2 “You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, help us not to be led astray from You by worshiping speechless idols. There are many temptations in the world to find peace and purpose that are not approved by You. Help us today to identify what things You want us to do so that we are living according to Your purpose knowing that You will give us the true and real peace we need. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Searching for the one thing that can give us peace may move us away from God who is all we need.
God wants us to come to only Him and worship only Him. Where is your focus today?
When we look for meaning in life anywhere else we won’t find it.
Knowing that God is all we need for worship is enough to keep us away from the ungodly to find the peace that only God can give.
We can look everywhere on earth for meaning but the true meaning of life only comes from God.
1 Timothy 1:4 “Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.” (NLT)
