I've been kicking the idea of riding my bike to catch to bus to work for about a year now. So with May being bike month, I figure now is as good a time as ever to make it happen.
Bicycling seems like it was so much easier as a kid. Just grab your bike, in whatever clothing you happened to be wearing, and go. In middle school, I rode to school. Backpack for the books, and a rack for the clarinet.
As an adult, I've dabbled in the cycling "culture". Never competitive, just fun rides. I've done organized rides from 25 miles to the MS150 from Houston to Austin. And the training rides to get there.
What this means, is I'm overthinking this endeavor. Which bike to ride - my hybrid or road bike? What clothes to wear? Will I have to change once I get to work? How should I deal with my hair? What do I do when it rains? Summer gets really hot here, what then?
So I'm trying to break this down to small steps, and just taking one step at a time. For Bike Month, I'll ride on Fridays. Last week I mapped out the route I would take to the bus stop. This evening, I tried out the route. And on Friday, I'll ride.
