Rabbit, Rabbit! It's May! Can't wait for the MT Women's Run!

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Long ago someone taught me that saying Rabbit Rabbit first thing when you wake up on the first day of the month will bring good luck.

So at 4:45 am this morning, I said it and then got up and went to my workout group. While I was sweating away to a new mix of songs (thanks to our workout leader, aka "Sweaty"), I started thinking about May, and my absolute favorite run of the year THE MONTANA WOMEN'S run.

Really, if you are within, say 100 miles of Billings, MT, you should come! It started about 32 years ago when the male runners of Billings put on a run over mother's day weekend to thank all the women who organized and volunteered at their runs. It was really small to start with and now it's HUGE and the money that is raised goes to tons of good causes.

So I started doing it in 1999 with my friend Janis and her daughters.

Then my daughters and mom started coming (they walked), then all the girls could run and soon out run me! Over the years, lots of friends have joined me and I've got a ton of good memories.
A really sweet one of Deb, Jan and Janis and me! (Deb must have taken the picture)

This year one I have a friend coming from New York state. I used to babysit her kids back in the 70's.

For me it's a celebration of all women and this year I'm making a shirt with the names of all the important women in my life on it. There are so many, I'll need an XXL just to fit all the names!

Ditto what Timothy said! I am looking forward to the Women's Run as well! That is the best run all year! (ok the Missoula half marathon is a close second)

    Ok, ok, ok.

I guess no one ever told you: "Luck is for the unprepared."

You will do well this month. You have prepared for it all during April. And you will have a wonderful run in Billings in 12 days because you will have good friends and family around you.

So who needs luck?
