Getting Back on Track

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Just one visit to CF so far this week, but I'm on track to get to 4 classes!

Yesterday after the warm up we started off with 2 400M runs for time. Since my 10K on Thanksgiving, I have run once. It was about 2 miles and I didn't time it because I didn't want to get depressed about how slow I was. The weather this "spring" has been insane snow > 70 degrees > snow. We've had a few WODs with runs in them, but I think I've only done one...The last time I sprinted? Um, who knows. I'll get to the point now...these SUCKED. I've always been bad at pacing for stuff like this, mostly because I just have so little experience doing it. I don't think I've ever done 400 m sprints for time, so I don't have anything to compare to. My first was done in 1:43 and the second in 1:53 (200m out and back). The first one was actually a little short. We usually run straight out of our garage door, but that involves a steep little driveway and some turns. Instead, we started out on the sidewalk. The leader of the pack turned around early and we all followed him, thinking we missed the memo that the turn around point was different, but it turns out he just messed up. I felt awful during the runs and was the second to last one done each time, by about 5 seconds. That did not feel good. i should really work on my running.

That alone felt like enough of a WOD, but lucky us, there was more!

6 rounds:
7 deadlift (Rx=223, I used 163)
7 10m shuttle sprints
12 pull-ups (purple/red bands)

Time: 14:53

My legs were smoked. DL + running always sucks. My sprints turned into slow jogs. I also got a bunch of terrible blisters from the pull-ups. I was so happy when I finished. I definitely do not feel like I'm in the best shape right now. I'm sure I'll feel better once I get back in the habit of working out 4x week.

My hamstrings are nice and sore today. I kind of wanted to do today's WOD (box jumps & hang power snatches, a repeat from March), but I have class that ends right as the last CrossFit class of the day begins. I was kind of bummed as I walked back to my car because we got out early and I could've made it in time if I had a change of clothes. Turns out I wouldn't have made it anyway, I left my lights on and my battery died. Oops. I had to sit around for another 20 minutes waiting for a maintenance guy to come and give me a jump. I'll be back in the gym tomorrow AM though. There better not be any running!

Basically when there's running in a WOD my only goal is to run the whole way and not walk at all. And not to die, of course. Actually not dying is goal #1, running the whole time is goal #2.
