So I haven't been on here for a couple of weeks. I started my Paleo journey 3 weeks ago, following the lifestyle about 90% of the time. I really thought it would be much harder than it has been; thought I was going to miss my breads and high carb snacks. While there was an adjustment period for about a week and a half where I was insanely tired and hungry, it was alleviated by increasing my protein and (healthy) fat intake after consulting with various sources. Once I was actually eating enough, I felt much better :).
The biggest difference in how I feel is something I only discovered when I had been following Paleo for 3 weeks, consuming no grains of any kind and then had a piece of 100% whole wheat toast with my breakfast last weekend. I felt a definite pronounced bloating I would never have noticed had I not gone off of gluten for that 3 week time span. It also made me constipated. So I guess I DO have some degree of gluten intolerance, this has been very enlightening for me! I no longer drink cow's milk or eat cheese, but I have not given up my Greek yogurt as I feel I need it for the protein content and I love eating the plain with my own selection of berries or mandarin orange or banana, walnuts, and a chia/flax blend. I may or may not play around with eliminating it for a while, to see if that produces any evidence of intolerance to dairy.
Now for the results. I have been doing my body weight exercises, 3 days a week, with light cardio, about 25 -30 minutes 3 -4 days per week. I have not lost any more weight, still weighing in at 140. But my body is changing for sure!

Waist to Hip Ratio went from .86 to .83
While these aren't huge numbers, I will take it!!! I would like my waist to hip ratio to be 80 or less, to be in the healthy range, but I am just not pear shaped, never have been. I am more of an hourglass.
What really impresses me and makes me want to continue with this program is I am no longer a slave to calorie counting. So for my 1st week I tracked my food but remember, I was so weak and hungry. I decided to just go by my hunger levels and forget about counting calories, eating more if I was still hungry and not obsessing about each calorie and fat gram. Wow, has this been liberating!!!! Now I am not tied to the computer logging all this information in. While tracking WAS useful to me while following the Standard American Diet (SAD) and I dropped 7 lbs doing it, I am happy to not have to do it anymore, as it did take quite a bit of my time.
I resisted the urge to hop on the scale each week, deciding instead to just weigh in once a month. But while I was a little surprised the scale hasn't moved this month, I have gone down an entire pants size, now wearing a size 6. I have NEVER been a size 6. At 5' 71/2" my smallest size before having 4 children was a Juniors size 9 which I think is comparable to a Misses size 8.
So all in all, I am Loving my new lifestyle! If I WANT something that isn't "paleo" such as Chocolate Cookies and Cream Ice Cream, or a piece of birthday cake, or an occasional pizza or tacos I can have it once and a while and not sweat it! Cutting out processed foods, high glycemic carbs, most sugar and dairy allows me to eat more calorie dense, nutritious protein, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds and "good" fats without worrying about the volume of these foods I am eating, and gives me the freedom to splurge once in a while without feeling bad about it. WIN WIN!!!
