C25K - week 8, day 2

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

It is beautiful out today for week 8 day 2. Could even say hot. 83 degrees, sun is shining. Yeah, I was sweating buckets when I got done, but I got done! I did have some doubts part way through. This is actually the first time I ever considered walking a bit, although I resisted.

Saturday is my actual 5K, and I feel good about it. Knowing that I can complete the distance in my chosen time, the battle is half over right there I think. I will not be running day 3, as I will be resting to prepare for the 5K instead.

Turn around today was farther out, at Old Byers. Just right.

No breathing issues today.

Stats:
39:22 minutes (the difference here is just how well I guess halfway and close to get back to the building at the right time).
3.22 miles (same as Monday)
4.9 avg mph (same)
6053 fitbit steps. (Sometimes this gets a few extra in the setup, back to the desk times).

I tried to look at the GPS and get some additional information today. This is not perfect, but it seems interesting.
At the 5 minute walk to run time, I had gone .42 miles. I thought I walked at about 3.8 mph, but that math shows my walking pace to be faster? I forgot to check the moving average at that point. Even if it was 6 minutes, that would still be a 4.2 mph pace.
At the run to walk time, I was at 2.81 miles, which means I ran for 2.39 miles in 28 minutes. That would be 5.1 mph. I think that is right, although I think I was a bit slow today, other days I might go a tad faster.
At the final, I was at 3.22 miles, so I had walked for another .41 miles in 5 minutes. Again, this would be 4.4 mph average.

My plan for the 5K is this: Download the podcast for week 9. This will give me a 5 minute warmup, 30 minute run, and 5 minute cooldown. I will continue the jog beyond the 30 minutes into the cooldown if needed, until I cross the finish line. Then I will reward myself with an additional celebration song as well.
