Whole30, Day 14

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

So...2 weeks. I've been doing this for 2 weeks. It doesn't actually feel that long, except I'm getting a little tired of eggs for breakfast...which is strange because I used to eat the exact same thing for breakfast every morning for months at a time (oatmeal in 2010/2011 and then granola & milk in early/mid 2012 and then cereal & milk in late 2012/early 2013) and I'm actually having more variety now. Maybe because it takes more work to prepare? or maybe it's because I don't love eggs... Don't get me wrong, they're delicious, occasionally, but it's definitely not the first thing I'd choose for breakfast. Every. Single. Day. I think after the Whole30 is over I'll be trying out some paleo granola recipes, although I may experiment with adding oats back in. I could easily see my breakfast becoming some sort of granola with almond or coconut milk along with a hardboiled egg (or a salmon cake!). Or a protein shake. I really miss the ease of protein shakes.

I'm going rock climbing with some co-workers after work today. It'll be a first for me, but I think it'll be fun. I am kinda scared of heights, but there's a harness...and a co-worker belaying me...wait, maybe I should be scared. I'm sure it'll be fine, although exhausting. And I have to be at work at 5 am tomorrow morning (I have to be on Eastern time). This will be followed by a Dr's appt. in the afternoon & then tomorrow night I get to see Neil deGrasse Tyson give a talk, woo! Hopefully I won't fall asleep during it. I am so looking forward to the weekend to just relax.

Food today:
Breakfast: 3 egg & spinach omelette, coconut water
Lunch: Leftover veggies with curry sauce, 2 salmon cakes, fresh pineapple
Snack: nuts, hardboiled egg (pre-climbing snack)
Dinner: I have no clue. Maybe a salad? Whatever I feel like preparing when I get home from climbing...(I need to go to the grocery store for more eggs anyway, so this may devolve into me picking up some ceviche & roasted veggies from Whole Foods instead...)

Hugs & Sparkles!

I sometimes have chicken, sausage, ham, sardines - whatever I have in the house for breakfast. Even a handful of almonds or sunflower nut butter on a banana...Mix it up and
have fun with it!

You are far braver than I. My height phobia kicks in just reading about your adventure!

I'm only on day 8, but I definitely relate to your feelings of being in an egg rut. Although Salmon cakes sound like a yummy start to breaking free I can't remember where I saw it, either a Whole9 blog or email that suggested to stop thinking about meals in the traditional fashion, breakfast, lunch, dinner, but rather meal 1, 2, & 3 to help you stop limiting yourself to traditional breakfast foods. Maybe they're right, but I'm not ready to embrace Talapia and roasted cauliflower for breakfast yet.

Good luck at the doctor tomorrow. What are you going to do when they make you get on the scale? I guess you could always close your eyes. I'm tempted every day to weigh myself.

Have fun rock climbing. Sounds like you work with a fun group of people.
