Racing to finish

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

This has been a hectic week so far, and it is only Wednesday.

Most of this is because I've been putting things off, putting other things on the backburner, and just plain struggling to get past my own procrastinatory tendencies for the past week or so. Something else is ALWAYS inherently more interesting and seemingly urgent than the work that I need to finish.

Well, enough of that. Two things that I'm trying out:
1) doing the task I dread most, first, and
2) not putting so many unnecessary things on my to-do list so that it is less overwhelming.

What are your favorite strategies or suggestions for combating the desire to procrastinate?

(I just typed "procreate"-- whoa, different conversation. Though if you want to tell me about that, too, bring it on!)

We could be twins separated at birth, a generation apart. I liked the philosophy one Sparker wrote about, and there's truth in it, about "eating the frog first". As you clearly state, the most distasteful task first, and it's out of the way.

Self discipline without school, or parents' whining is the hardest. Even at my age, I still need someone to sit on my head.
