The no scale challenge

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

I find that I am relying too heavily on the scale to ‘see’ my results. Honestly, I don’t really care what I weigh (this is the honest truth); I just associate certain weights with ‘healthy’ vs. ‘unhealthy’ and get a little fixated in that manner. Needless to say I have been popping on the scale multiple times per week, despite knowing better.

This month (starting this past week, actually) I am prepping for a 5k (next month as well). I have plenty to think about regarding that (I can’t yet run more than about 5 minutes) – I just need to get off the scale. It has nothing to do with my success in this arena – and I truly believe it will distract me.

So my challenge is no scale for the entire month of May (even just to check in). I weighed in this morning (149.6) and I do not intend to weigh in again until June 1st. I know for some people this would be counterproductive – but I think it will help me… of course now I have to hide the scale! =D

I will check in.. let you know how much torment this is. Wish me luck! I’m going to need it on those Monday morning when I want to check my weekend damage.

errcckk I couldn't do it but I'm the self proclaimed every day'er. I would do it once I landed in the healthy BMI range if I was just trying to lose a couple extra to look good. Right now I'm overweight quantifiably, which puts me at risk for all sorts of health problems down the road. Are you going to be logging every calorie? Anyway, good luck and awesome for the 5k!! That's very cool.

I think I'm going to join you!!!! I'm tied to the scale. Looking at your page it looks like we're about the same weight and have the same goal. Good luck and keep me posted! I'm not stepping on the scale until June 1 if you don't emoticon

Good idea! I've done it before too. Focusing on my running is helping me not worry about the number on the scale, but it is a very delicate balance. Good for you!

I have done this myself~I gauged everything by Non Scale Victories and it was liberating! Be sure to check back in after a month to let us know how it went.
