The Skinny Skirt

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

We all have those clothes. Beyond any scale successes and defeats there are those key items, a pair of jeans or maybe slacks that let you know exactly where you stand.

One of my key items is a formal black skirt. It has a high waist, long zipper, and is a silky material such that no matter how many squats you do it's not going to stretch. (Jeans, on the other hand, you can stretch). My sister owned this skirt when I was in high school and when she passed it on to me I could barely stuff my stomach into it. I remember wearing a long shirt to cover where my stomach was bulging. I've owned it for over a decade now, so over the years I've periodically put it on to see "where I stand". At times I couldn't even zip it halfway up. And then once or twice it's actually been loose. I don't even think I've worn the thing in public for 10 years! But I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Too many times I've put it on and thought "oh man it's time to start watching what I eat again." or the exact opposite: "woohoo!"

So, this week was a woohoo moment. Even though I'm still 3 lbs heavier than last year, and 8 lbs from a healthy BMI, I'm still the fittest I've ever been. So while the skirt wasn't loose I've got a flat tummy and it looked good!

Anyone have similar stories / experiences?

I have a couple of pair of jeans from when I was smaller that I refuse to throw out, thow now that I have been taking things at a slow and steady pace I have noticed NO problem donating any of my bigger clothes as soon as they are too big!

    Yay! Good for you!

I have some khakis that are a good gauge of my waist, tummy and thighs. They are my skinny pants. I got them about 3 years ago when I lost 20 lbs. As I gained the weight back, I had to put them away for a while. Then last April I joined Sparkpeople, lost the 20 lbs again and have been wearing the pants since about last August. I have put away some of my clothes that don't fit, but have also gotten rid of a bunch. I am starting to gain confidence that I can maintain at a healthier weight/BMI!

Yes, I had a pair of jeans that fit six years ago, for a brief period, then not again until this past autumn because of weight gain. Now they are very loose, almost too big!!!
    It's the best feeling!

For me it is a pair of jeans!!!!
2 months ago I was not able pull them up!!!
Today I can pull them up but I still cannot zip them! hopefully in one month I will be able to zip them!!!! That will be a great milestone for me!!!!

And the next goal will be for my stomach not to be bulging over them!!!

Congrats! For me it's a pair of jeans that i have owned for about 10 years. But over the years of trying to stuff myself into them, they have quite a few tears and rips. But for some reason i still can't get rid of them. I'm hoping to fit into them by this summer

I've got a pair of dark brown corduroys with a snap closure instead of a traditional button. It is a "woohoo!" when I can sit or bend in them without them unsnapping. I haven't tried them on in a couple months!
