We all have those clothes. Beyond any scale successes and defeats there are those key items, a pair of jeans or maybe slacks that let you know exactly where you stand.
One of my key items is a formal black skirt. It has a high waist, long zipper, and is a silky material such that no matter how many squats you do it's not going to stretch. (Jeans, on the other hand, you can stretch). My sister owned this skirt when I was in high school and when she passed it on to me I could barely stuff my stomach into it. I remember wearing a long shirt to cover where my stomach was bulging. I've owned it for over a decade now, so over the years I've periodically put it on to see "where I stand". At times I couldn't even zip it halfway up. And then once or twice it's actually been loose. I don't even think I've worn the thing in public for 10 years! But I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Too many times I've put it on and thought "oh man it's time to start watching what I eat again." or the exact opposite: "woohoo!"
So, this week was a woohoo moment. Even though I'm still 3 lbs heavier than last year, and 8 lbs from a healthy BMI, I'm still the fittest I've ever been. So while the skirt wasn't loose I've got a flat tummy and it looked good!
