The good news and some not so good news

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

my results came in from the latest tests and the good news is that I do not have lymes, crones or a couple of other things....but I do have the Rheumatoid Arthritis(RA) which could be the cause of the severe gastritis I am having and the malabsorption problem. With the malabsorption I am not getting any vitamin B at all which is why I am feeling so sick. the plan is to put me on IV consistently for 24 hours a day beginning tomorrow for 5 days. I am also not to eat any gluten and 5 small meals a day. So I will have a nurse here 24 hours a day. And I will be getting vitamin B shot every other day. I am not sure I will be on sparks. Depends on where the IV is placed and if I can type
Hope you all are well.

Well, it's good to know what's going on but I wish you could be spared the next 5 days. Sounds like a tough go. You'll get through it, of course, but absolutely asking a lot of you. Hope it goes perfectly and is the answer.

So very sorry for your diagnosis of RA :((( That is terrible. I hope they can help you -attacking the GI tract is very rare for it. Hope the IV and the meal plans bring you back to a more normal feeling soon. So glad you are being watched over carefully by humans and kitties.

    Hello Sallie,
I am still praying for you. I had to take a vitamin B shot for a year. The shot helped me . I think this time you are at least getting more answers to your condition.Take care Sallie

Wow Sallie, what a road for you! Thinking of you and hoping things take a positive turn soon!

Sallie, I'm sorry - yet also encouraged - to hear your news. What's positive, though, is that the constant nursing presence and care plus dietary and nutritional changes should really have you feeling noticeably better soon. You've weathered all this with such patience and courage... I bet you'll be feeling a lot more like your former self in a week, too.

As someone who also has an autoimmune condition, we've got so many more options - many of them powerful and quite amazing - than we did, say, 20 years ago, when my problem was diagnosed. The medicine I'm on, though for a different condition, halted the progression of my disease. With Enbrel and some of the other newer therapies for RA plus that lovely, perfect climate and setting, you could be feeling about 200% better, ultimately - I sure hope so.

Thinking of you this afternoon and hoping for your continued swift, sure healing - Susan emoticon

Thanks for the heads up that you might not be able to post. We'd worry if you went silent without warning.

I don't know anything about how to deal with RA and your other issues, but it sounds like you have a medical system that is very focused on figuring out what's wrong and doing something about it. I hope the efforts to do that are successful.

Sallie, sorry to hear about the RA, but it is better to know so you can take action. Glad you have someone taking care of you. I know you will research what is going to best for you. Many prayers going up for you.

Glad some things ruled out and even though RA etc is no picnic, you at least have a plan of action. Sometimes just that fact can be a relief; problems are a little (?) less stressful when we at least know some parameters in the 'what do I do' department. Hope the nurse is a nice one; maybe you'll have a good time. Hmm... it could be possible to play the train dominoes even with an IV....! You may want to monitor nutrition/calories so you don't go under nutrients when you first dump the gluten.

SP is not your main concern, so... we will 'see' you when we do!
Sure am glad you're on a solid track now! Get well. Be well!

At least now you know what it isn't :) RA is a debilitating decease but can be managed with diet and meds. My daughter was diagnosed at 14 and after 4 years on methotrexate (vile stuff!!!) she has been doing well on Enbrel for the last 7 years. (she's 25 now)
Hope the IV and adjusted diet will make you feel better!

Hoping the IVs and shots make you feel much, much better. Sounds like you are a whole lot closer to understand what is going on in your body. RA is not a fun disease by any stretch of the imagination, but medical science has improved a lot in the last 50 years in treatment of RA. I know several people who manage pretty well despite RA. Hope you are soon in that group, Sallie. Hang on! -Marsha
