Daughter Erin and I had a biking date with friends this evening, just a leisurely hour of riding. But it was a gorgeous day, so I decided to bike commute into town this morning. on the way back, I took the detour that takes me through a beautiful park by the lake, but ends with a nasty climb. So when we took the ride down into the gorge where the bike trail is, I was a little trepidatious about the climb back out.
We met up with the other two couples in the parking lot of the marina. "Where did you park?" they asked.
"Um, at home?" (To be fair, we live considerably closer to the park than either of them.) We rode a leisurely 8 miles round-trip and it was fun.
Then I had to face the hill. "I'll meet you at the top," I said to Erin. "I'll be walking up."
We made the climb out! Then to celebrate, Erin and I biked down to a local bar and had drinks, then biked on home.
Total for the evening: 17. Total for the day: 39. Finally over 100 miles on my bike for the year. By this time last year I was well into my 300s, so I have lots of time to make up. But it feels great to be out there again.
