Well of all of my K races and my first HM, this one was my first "destination" race....maybe that was it? but I do not think so. Had awesome socks, new shoe insoles, KT muscle strapping on my predicted problems, carb loaded, sodium increase...things should have gone a whole lot better...but I did not have the one thing I think I needed... T-R-A-I-N-I-N-G, if you have read a lick of my blogs you will know that the plantar faciatis I had a little more than a year ago disappeared from both feet, then not too long after my first HM it came back in my right foot only, like a LIONI! ruined my hopes of seeing my first NFL game and ever since mentally all I can think about is the what if of pain and not really training.
Did a 15K in March with little more than 4 or so miles on the road and SOMEHOW! I finished and my foot wasn't a complete disaster afterwards. Thought it disappeared again, but it nudged its way back into my life a few weeks after that when I was working on my house and this requires me to be on my feet for 8-10 hours at a time up and down ladders! So I put off any training I was thinking about with my crappy schedule.
So Sunday, I was going to do this no matter what! Fully congested from a cold, tired as all heck but this was not going to stop me. When the start began I was in corral E...the LAST corral, note to self! NEVER, EVER be at the back of the last corral! These people are seriously only going to WALK in front of you. This killed my usual drive of the first two miles where I can do my best times! RUINED! So I spent so much energy on walking, it wasn't until mile 3 or 4 where I tried to begin my rythm, jog street light to street light and so forth...BUT the course had no continuity and I had a group of walkers every which way in front of me. I even had a 100 oz Camelback that I used and motified for the first time. Heading past mile 7, (YAY more that half way now!) I started to feel the first cramp!!! Damn calves, the jog/walk what was there became a stretch walk, now that sucks on your time! I had already asked my DH and mom to be at mile 8 where I could drop my camelback and get some new beverages. My DH did a good job with the exchange, BUT my mom felt that standing near the sidewalk and opening up my Gatorade for me was a good idea...I know I ended up cussing her out while others passed...apparently I needed to give EXACT instructions of how this works....up the hill I go....(Felt a little bad about the whole mom thing but now all I can feel is sticky hands---oh how I hate that! yay mile 9 Gu shots!! Icky Mocha?!? Now the real runners are at the finish line and I have 4 more miles!!!!! Down and then up now we are on a nice trail try to jog downhill....muscles WON'T have it. Some older woman is hobbeling with a medic team at her side, once I pass my MP3 player just stops working....Note to self put it in plastic wrap or something, It got a little to damp I think...now great no FREAKING music and I am dragging, my pace can't nearly get any worse...WRONG, the last 3 miles I can barely pull anything under a 20 minute mile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! I decided every GU I saw on the ground that wasn't used I was going to take,,,got at least 3 ( I love free) Now I got to where the fencing was keeping the spectators at bay...less of a crowd than Portland....that is ok I suck at this today, I get some energy to pull more of a "power walk" together so I don't look totally pathetic. Get to the stadium enterance....ok, ok I got this I can jog this in....NOPE!!! Must finish one foot in front of the other, don't trip! Through only a miracle and my determination I get my medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't know if anyone got a picture, the camera people looked like everyday shmoes. Apparently my average pace time was 17:00 exact!!!!!!!!
So after this week of rest I am going to try and following the last 3 weeks or so of a HM training schedule. My PF is great at the moment still, I got NO blisters!!!!!!, my 2nd toe nail on my left foot is the only one feeling funny, and the soreness in the sides of my feel are just the result of 13.1 crazt miles for an overweight woman...I'll accept it. (Must lose weight!)
