Lost Friends

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

I realized recently that a couple of my Sparkfriends who joined around the same time as me (Jan 9) had fallen off the grid. When I went to check out their pages, they had been taken offline! This makes me so sad! Both of these girls were really doing well with their weight loss, but the more I thought about it I realized that they were both cutting calories WAY back and trying to do hardcore gym workouts almost every day. Now that's great and all but it seems like maybe when they couldn't maintain those habits they just gave up completely.

My own weight loss has been fairly slow, and sometimes even backwards. I gained a couple pounds back this past week or so and was really feeling awful about it but the important thing is that I am NOT giving up. But I'm also not going to try to lose 5lbs this week. I'm going to keep exercising - even a little bit counts! - and I'm going to continue to slowly slowly slowly try to change my eating habits.

I wish I had a way to reach out to the two friends who disappeared and ask them to come back and try again. It's not going to happen overnight. It might even take a YEAR OR MORE! But the important thing is that we keep trying. And we're all in this together, right?

You have done so great so far and I'm so glad to have you as a emoticon ! I'm sure you could ask these friends about what happened and see if you could help them get into a good lifestyle that is easier to maintain.

We both came here about the same time Ashley, my start date was Jan 6. That is how we met, through that Spark team. I saw positive blogs by you and liked your spark. Congrats to both of us and so many others who took it slow and steady and did not give up when the scale did not go exactly they way they wanted when they wanted. And we learned our weaknesses and tried to take the next positive step. It is sad when friends disappear though. I hope that they come back and try again, for themselves. I took a needed break for four months but have come back here, and I am glad because I met you and other awesome sparkers I would not of met otherwise.

Your team mate,
Steven

I noticed the same thing with some of the friends I made when I first came on here. I've been on since early Feb. and it has been nothing but a positive experience for me. Some people just aren't ready. Unfortunately, until I was ready, no amount of coaxing or support was going to work for me. I have a friend at work who sees me every day. Over the last year and a half she has seen me lose 45 pounds. She knows I go to the gym almost every day. She probably tells me every week that she needs to get in shape and lose weight. I told her about spark, numerous times. She said she wanted to come to a zumba class with me. She went to one class with me and that was the end of that. She's not ready. She may never be ready. It's a shame. But you can't talk people into losing weight. It has to be their decision. I like to receive motivation and support on spark and I also like to give it. I will add you as one of my spark friends. by the way, I saw on your spark page that you live in PA. me too!
