Last day of April.
Feb & March seemed to drag on forever, but this month ran by in a blur. Maybe that means I'm getting settled and each day seems more like the last. This month had some good and some bad. It started out with a terrific birthday spent with my love, and has ended with a trip we just got back from for him to meet my parents. In between there were wonderful highs.. like running the Crystal City 5k series with a new friend. And terrible lows... like finding out my old roomie and BFFF had to put his 14-year old dog down last week.
Earlier this month I found a belly dance class offered at the gym in my town, but it's just not as good as the studio in Atlanta. This one is more like "work your abs, feel your obliques crunch!" while the other one was about being feminine and sexy and enjoying this ethnic form of dance. Oh well. Last week I took this class called "Flaunt!" and it's exotic dancing meets pilates. Now..THAT was a fun class. I didn't realize how unsexy and benign I was on a day-to-day basis until I saw the instructor exuding her sensuality and encouraging us to do the same. There's a bond that happens when a group of women -- young, old, big, small, married, single -- all get in a room and be naughty together. Plus, you can certainly take those moves home for others to enjoy ;)
I need to get back on the wagon. I KNOW what I'm doing wrong, and it's starting to show on the scale. I'm skipping workouts, eating multiple desserts per week, and drinking almost every night. I started getting back into tracking food + exercise, and the numbers don't lie. I'm overeating and under exercising and it's got to STOP. I didn't work this hard to put it all back on. In the two months I've been in VA, I've put on 5 pounds. If I keep gaining at this rate, I will be 25 pounds heavier by December and there is NO way I'm going back to double-digit pant sizes. No excuses. Just stop with the sugar already!! Five pounds will be easy to come off, as long as I stop now. Which means:
1-I will exceed my fitness goal this week = MORE than 1200 calories burned!
2-I will not go over my calories.
3-No drinking until Sunday (Cinco de Mayo) and I will track all day long.
My wonderful bf asked me to get him started on Spark, which I gladly obliged. The first day we sat down and ran his numbers, and he was astonished that over half his calories came from junk like coffee creamer, trail mix, and candy bars. He thought he ate reasonably healthy, which reiterates how useful the tracker tool is. Now he's very conscious about what he's eating, and makes sure to log everything. One thing we're having trouble with is our calorie ranges are so far apart.. by supper time he usually has as many calories left as I'm allotted for an entire day! I cook reasonably healthy meals so he's often short at the end of the day (sooooo unfair!). I've been trying to pack him extra food to eat during the day and double up his portions at night, but there's only so much spaghetti squash and meat sauce one person can eat. It's a work in progress.. me not going over, him not going under. We'll get there :)
