Is Huddling Uncool Now?

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

When I first joined SP and started looking at teams a few years ago, I noticed that the huddles were always humming. These days when I drop in I'm very often the first (and only) to huddle. Maybe I'm just on some low-traffic teams? What gives?

I agree...there definitely does seem to be a lack of involvement with the huddles. It's a bit disappointing the feel of this site has become very transactional. It didn't have that feel a few years ago when I was on it. Oh, at the end of the day you have to make the changes for yourself and do what needs to be done. It would have been nice to have partners along the way.

Hmmm, BAPKTM's comment makes me think the newer team page layout is to blame.

If you look under the scrolling feed on a team's home page, there's a Huddle feature. It's a way to share short motivational messages with everyone on the team.

I think it definitely depends on the teams. On some teams, I'm the only person who huddles while on others, several people huddle. It seems to always the same people every day. My criticism with huddles is that the standard options don't add much value to the site. For example, seeing "Let's Go Team!" over and over loses its meaning and motivational punch. The huddles are much better when they're unique. They're nicer to read but, still, I'm not exactly motivated by them either!

I actually have never heard of huddling. What is it?
