"Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds."

Orison Swett Marden

I find this to be so true, as it applies to maintenance. I consider 'losing it' just the beginning or....'what you accomplish' and not that by which success is measured by. Here's the catch....the 'opposition' is maintenance, or the long haul, the forever thing. It truly is an opposing force to recon with!!! It takes more than courage to meet the 'struggle against overwhelming odds', it takes dogged determination, tons of perseverance and a single vision to grab that golden ring of success - where ever that is!!! It's like the carrot tied to the end of a stick right in front of one's nose....we keep going after the carrot and it's the ACTION, the MOVEMENT that, in reality delivers the carrot to us even tho' it seems we never get to it. The 'struggle against overwhelming odds' in my perception is the 95% fail rate for those who reach goal weight only to regain some or all of the pounds lost. The goal for me, the real prize is to remain in the 5% of losers who did beat those 'overwhelming odds'.

As hard as it is to get it off, I think it will be 1000 times harder to keep it off. I do NOT want to get that "I have arrived" attitude that will cost me ground that I have made.

I thought of you last night at WW. A member came in who had met goal...weighed...and was told that she had to gain weight because she was below her healthy range. I want someone to tell me I've lost too much weight...but that's over 150 pounds away...LOL....so I'll keep Sparkin' and you keep maintaining and we'll be just fine!

AMEN SISTAH!!! Losing of the weight is only the beginning and it IS daunting to think of it as a "forever thing" but I think of it this way. I the heatlhy lifestyle isn't a forever thing then I am choosing an UNHEALTHY lifestye and all the consequences as a result. Who ME? NOT a chance in sparkville!

HUGS and thanks for this great blog!

I think we all get a little bit of the carrot from time to time but it is the motivation to get that close that keeps us moving. Keep reaching and striving and keep on SParking. I think you are in the 5% for good!

I am also working on maintenance. It is not always easy.
Going to lunch with a friend make it a struggle. A friend and I are going to eat at a new Greek restaurant today. I'm just not sure what to order.
