Picture of how I spent my weekend burning calories....

Monday, April 29, 2013

We had our own little Extreme Makeover: Home Edition going on this weekend! My mom (nearly a master gardener) came up to help me deal with my yard. We bought the house last August, so it's been fun seeing what's already planted, but it was time to get it together. My non-grass areas were probably 80% weeds! We filled our entire yard waste bin (which is twice the size of my garbage can), then filled an entire storage tub, two boxes and a paper bag with even more! We spent two days doing major gardening, and finishing up some painting projects. I did even more weeding today, and planted some lettuce in the backyard.

I'm really sore. But it was worth it!!! And I was down 6 pounds at my weigh-in!!!! Gardening burns a lot of calories :)

Good job! I just spent 2 1/2 hours pruning my holly bushes. They have scales in them. So I am getting rid of a lot of dead branches inside of the bushes, and pruning them away from the deck. Once I finish all of them around the deck, I will spray with Bayer Mite and Insect spray and hopefully that will take care of the infestation. Then I will lay down some mulch. But I am a widow and doing it by myself, so it will take a few days. The bushes really needed to be cleaned up which it has been for a couple of years since hubby passed away back in 2013. But your yard looks wonderful! emoticon

Wow! Your lawn looks incredible!!!!! Hyper organized and awesome! We have evergreens too. I think I could spend an entire weekend just pruning ours! We have like 6 between the back and the front lol. I like the purple flowers you've got going on the right. It adds a really nice pop of colour!

I was shocked at how many calories gardening burns when I entered it into my tracker! I'm trying to make this a major hobby right now (it is kind of fun!) since it is such a healthy thing to do! Still trying to decide what to plant where. Our "front yard" is litterally a 2 foot strip that was mostly made into a flower bed so thankfully we don't have too much work to do there.

Any weeding advice? It sounds like you went the manual route! We have 2 dogs so we will be doing the same. Anyways, it's so expensive that it feels smarter to get some exercise while taking care of the weeds!
