Today is day 19 of my current streak!
My birthday was on Sunday, and I was really blessed to get so many goodies and sweet messages on my page to wish me a happy day. I'm 52 now! But if its true that you are only as old as you feel, then I guess I can say I'm only 35 or so, lol.
In addition to the goodies and messages, I also got a few cards in the mail, and some gifts too! One of my gifts was quite a surprise. It was from a friend of mine who has never been supportive of my weight loss efforts. But she found a workout DVD at a yard sale, and since she thought I'd like it, she bought it and sent it to me. Its this one;
I have to tell you....the "Fat Burning Big Ball Workout" segment kicked my butt! It was actually lots of fun, but it was hard. In no time at all, it had me sweating and panting. It really got my heart rate up. (And it got my thighs burning, lol.) Its a 30 minute workout, but I was only able to do 18 minutes before I had to stop. I was exhausted, but feeling great.
It doesn't make me feel bad at all that I couldn't get through the entire 30 minute workout. Even though I've been working out regularly since March 1, 2012, I have to admit that I skimp a lot on cardio. For some reason, I just do NOT like doing cardio. Give me yoga or strength training any day, and I'll do it and come back for more. Tell me to do cardio, and I'll avoid it like the plague! So although I've gotten quite strong and flexible over the past year, I haven't really been much of a cardio bunny. Perhaps thats one of the reasons I've been at a plateau for so long?
Anyway, I've decided to start doing cardio on a regular basis, and this workout is just what I needed. Difficult, but fun! Hubby was actually laughing at me while I was doing the workout because he thought I looked funny doing it. I laughed too, actually, because some of the moves made me feel silly...but trust me, this was a WORKOUT. And even though I wasn't able to finish it today, I'm not bummed. This is just my starting point. I know if I stick with it, I'll get better and before long I WILL be able to finish. I just need to give myself time to improve!
In the past, if I tried a workout and couldn't finish it, I would feel so discouraged, and like I was a failure. And then I'd give up. I never gave myself a chance to get better at it. I never gave myself enough time to make progress. But now I know that I just need to keep going, and as long as I don't quit I will eventually succeed. So I look forward to getting better and better at this workout.
But just from the portion I did today, I can tell my thighs are going to be sore tomorrow!
If you are struggling with a workout (or just struggling to start working out in the first place), don't give up. Start where you are and put forth your best effort...and give yourself a chance to get better and better. It won't happen over night, but it WILL happen as long as you don't give up!
