My Motivating Factors

Monday, April 29, 2013

Everyone has a reason to adopt a healthier lifestyle. I have one encompassing goal that breaks down into smaller goals ~ a more active "funner" lifestyle and more physical involvement. Don't get me wrong, I'm not relegated to a scooter, but I sometimes find myself approaching activities with apprehension - "can I do it?", "for how long?", "what will I look like?". This overlying theme breaks down into several concerns.

1) I'm currently on medication for extremely high blood pressure. I'm used to having low blood pressure (110/70) but have recently had blood pressure as high as 170/100. Not good. Activity, a low sodium diet, and losing wieght will lower that pressure. I'm choosing to be here for my kids and grandkids!!!!

2) My kids - I'm choosing to be more active for them but more importantly with them. Sure I want to be a good role model but what I really want is to have fun WITH them. I choose to swim, ride bikes, run, and play with my beautiful kids. I'm choosing to be able to do this for prolonged periods of time.

3) I'm a teacher. I chose to be healthier to be better at my job. I choose to join in during gym class. I want to climb those stairs (darn those 2 story schools!!!!) effortlessly. There is one school I go to that is set on a hill, when you approach it there are about 100 stairs, stairs to the office and then MORE STAIRS to get to the Intermediate classes. I approached this school the first time with much doubt. No more!!! i choose to conquer those stairs!!!!

4) My marriage - I love my husband dearly. I choose to be healthier so that we can enjoy our life together ~ for longer!!!!

You'll notice I didn't use the word "want". I used the word choose with purpose. My choices have brought me here and my choices will take me to where I want to be. It's as simple as that. Everyone has their reasons ~ which ones are you choosing?
