This has been a pretty busy week for me, so I really haven't had a chance to blog much. I'm still rolling on the low carb diet, and seem to be over the initial symptoms. I'm still tweaking what I eat each day, but I AM losing weight, which is exciting! It's slow going, but it's going - which is new for me - so I'll take it!
This weekend, my parents rented a cabin in the Smoky Mountains, and the whole family got together! It pretty much rained the entire time, but I was still able to get out and hike a little bit, and I was able to enjoy the breathtaking views from the porch! Given that homemade chocolate pie, raspberry pie, bread and a bunch of other equally carb-y stuff was readily available and being consumed by EVERYONE else, I am really proud to say I stuck to my diet! I know that I need to let my body have time to learn to burn its own fat, and while I may indulge in small bites of that stuff on rare special occasions in the future, right now, it would seriously derail me. Granted, eating the delicious taco salad, steak, and chicken we had wasn't really that much of a hardship, but I was still proud of myself for steering clear of the sweets!
This week in BLC 18, we're also supposed to create visual motivators. Not too long ago, I created a collage of images that represent reasons that are motivating me to lose weight, and it's posted on my page and on the desktop of my computer. It's certainly not every reason - or really even most of them- but it's a good start. You can read about the "vision collage" I created a couple of months ago here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypa
I have another visual motivator that I've created to help me work on a goal I have to walk and run the distance from my house here in Tennessee to my old home in New York City, preferably within the year. It's a little under 800 miles in total, and I have a big display on the wall in my office with a cut out of NY state, a cut out of TN, and a bunch of town names that are about 100 miles apart. They're all separated by string, and I have a little person shape cut out (that'd be me) who I move up the tracker each week! So far, I've walked and jogged 88.6 miles since I started this about 11 weeks ago, so it's a little slow-going. I know that I'll continue to build up my mileage though, and even if it takes longer than a year, it's a fun project that keeps me motivated to exercise! I'll take a picture here soon when I hit my first landmark and post updates of how it's going!
So this has turned into a bit of a rambling, tie-up-loose-ends kind of blog, but this week should be better for regular updates! Here's hoping it's another good one!
