Am I a tiger who's earned her stripes? What about my loose skin? (pics included)

Sunday, April 28, 2013

I have an unusual attitude toward my stretchmarks-badges of honor! From the birth of my two kids and then from losing weight I have a nice little collection of them. And I don't care-a favorite saying of mine is "Stretchmarks are the badge of a real woman" whenever my daughter is apt to point them out the stinker. emoticon I did see a saying "Your body is not ruined, you're a tiger who earned her stripes" which I like too! However my daughter who is the one who is roped into taking my pics said something interesting to me today that I really hadn't consciously considered before.

I have loose skin. What I had rationalized as stubborn fat on my hips, glutes and lower stomach is loose skin. Now maybe it would be far more prominent if I had not weight trained and built muscle during my fitness journey, but I do have loose skin. And I know WHY I have it and I see it in the same way as I do my stretchmarks-stripes that I have earned and badges of honor. My body that carried two wonderful babies for nine months-that is where my loose skin areas come from. They are reminders of when I was unfit and out of shape and efforts to get back into good health. So loose skin and stretchmarks...yes I have them and will continue to wear them proudly. I EARNED them! emoticon

I love your attitude! I have loose skin, too, but I don't worry about it. I'm having too much fun!

You look like a champion. Don't sweat the loose skin. Compared to what is out there, you are seriously streamlined.
And have I mentioned, you look amaizing?
Teens are still a bit obsessed with 'perfection' and with the airbrushed piccs they see in the media. So don't listen to her sweet little heart.
Yes, you deserve your stripes and badges. Wear them proudly, it took a lot of work.

Wow, you look great. I wish I could consider my loose skin battle scars. I just see them as a melted marshmellow. emoticon

emoticon Are we Sisters? I have ALWAYS considered My Loose Skin a Battle Scar!! I don't really have Stretch Marks to speak of, but the ones that are there are Definitely NOT something I am Self Conscious about. Weight Loss And Weight Maintenance are BATTLES and I have the Scars to Prove that I have fought a Good Fight!!

Your ability to see your body this way is admirable. My sister calls her stretch marks "birth tattoos". lol I mostly accept my stretch marks, but "mostly" still involves some self-consciousness. You are amazing.
